Summary: We really enjoyed our stay the last week of July. Francesco was responsive and helpful and we were put in touch with Valentina for everyday matters before our trip and during our stay. She was extremely responsive via SMS and phone calls and helped us with all sorts of questions about the house and local places to visit. She speaks English well. Punta Ala is a beautiful place and the house is located about 10 minutes from a public beach. With a bike, you are there in under 5 minutes and my elderly mother took 20 minutes to slowly walk there. I recommend walking or biking to the beach. But go early or late--it gets hot--30+ degrees in the sun during noon. We had 4 adults in their late 40s, 1 adult in his 60s and my mom, almost 80, our son aged 7 and a big dog. The house was very suitable to accommodate everyone, including the dog, since it has a pretty big, fenced-in yard. My mother stayed downstairs in the bedroom with the bunk beds (not ideal, but OK) and my sister and her partner in the other downstairs bedroom with the queen bed. My wife and I stayed upstairs in the 3rd bedroom with the queen bed and my brother and son in the 4th bedroom upstairs with the two single beds. It was very convenient to have a full bath downstairs and upstairs. The kitchen was small, but workable, with dishwasher, stove and fridge. It was stocked with all dishes, pots, pans, silverware and some essential food stuffs. We had some wonderful meals out on the terrace table--breakfast, lunch and dinner. It easily accommodated all of us. You can shop at two small grocery stores or roadside stands all within 5km and drive into Castiglione dlP for bigger purchases. We mostly stayed in the Punta Ala area because it was too cumbersome to move around a lot with my mother. In fact, it was probably a bit too far for her to walk. At 80 years, she needs a beach 20 meters away, not 500. But it was fine for the rest of us. Once you leave the residential area and go to the beach, there are numerous private beaches that you could pay for, and a couple of small public beaches. For bigger public beaches you can take the bike or car a few kilometers away. The sand is nice and the water was clear and very comfortably warm. In fact, I probably had the nicest swim of my life back and forth along the shore one fine summer day, feeling the warm water, seeing the sandy bottom and the beautiful pines along the shore, the yachts, and the big blue sky. : )
